Uplifting: Adopting 100 Other Children after Pregnancy at 16.

Meet Ms.Tusaiwe Mukhondiya, a self motivated young mother of one from Malawi, who would not be a victim of life’s vicissitudes. Rather, take life by it’s horn and meet it head-on.

Abandoned by her mum as a baby, she lives life on survival mode without parental love and affection, her only support system coming from her grand dad amidst the rejection from both parents and to an extent some family members.

After her son’s birth at 16 years, she becomes a foster mum to 100 other kids, which began her Charity work. Coupled with providing education, empowerment, shelter and safety to young mothers, and  the sexually abused in the society under a foundation named YANA ( You Never Walk Alone) Foundation, she stands as a hope of light to other young mothers and neglected infants.

The 24 year old is driven by her ordeal of abandonment and becoming a young mother at 16. Her son’s need for special attention becomes a driving force to establishing her own school as tutors could not meet the needs of her ward.

Starting off her school in her grandfather’s house, she faced challenges and eventually eviction from the house because extended family felt threatened by her potentials.

Unflustered  by their decision, she rents a place from the little  she made from selling samosa on a bicycle. All in a bid to host the children and single mothers, she rented two places, one in the village, the other in the city due to the growing numbers and the need for space.

Today, she can boast of her own village; apartments, school, hostel, high school amongst others. Mainly depending on support and funds from donors and organisations.

Tusaiwe proves to her doubters that indeed, “the stone the builders rejects, becomes the corner stone”.
