Glad you came by.
I wanted to welcome you and let you know I appreciate you coming here. Everyone is so busy these days, so I really do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to check out my blog!
My name is Kobina Ackon but you may know me as WODE MAYA. I am a Ghanaian freelance Vlogger/YouTuber. As a result of my documented visits to several African countries (20 & counting), my videos capture several fun and compelling stories with particular focus on, inspirational videos from Africans contributing to the development of Africa. I am absolutely excited to share with you MORE of what I have to offer! The amount of ideas, particularly in relation to maximizing the use of social media platforms and general content inspiration spiralling around in my head is unimaginable. I wanted to start by telling you why I have created this blog & what you will be seeing more of in my posts.
Per my Educational background, I am an Aeronautical Engineer but my passion has always been creating content that stimulates curiosity about Africa, hence, my vlogging/YouTube journey. Ever since I started my YouTube however, quite a number of people have attempted to have the “Why don’t you start a blog too?” conversation. Honestly, due to the level of travel involved in my type of content creation, I figured I wouldn’t really have time to write articles for the blog and if there is something anyone knows about me, it is the fact that I dedicate good time and energy in order to get excellent result. In fact, the expression ‘whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well’ is rephrased in my daily affirmation notepad as ‘whatever task I choose to do, I will do it excellently’, and I live by it.
Well, a few months ago, after doing a whole lot of research and interacting with a few bloggers, who I must say, have been so kind to offer much support & advice, I have become completely consumed with inspiration & zeal to do this, hence, I am giving it a chance. More importantly, this is a chance for me to get my thoughts in writing, give you an insight to the millions of things I hoard in my head, what I am up to in real time, countries I intend to visit and in general, things I have experienced in the course of my travels & a whole lot more.
As I am currently still working on the ‘Africa to the world’ series, It seem only obvious that for now, most posts here will be centred around that, but get ready because you will be seeing much more than you normally see via my Social Media platforms. For those who don’t know, Africa to the World is project broadcasting on all Wode Maya Social Media Channels. It brings to viewers in Africa, the African diaspora and people who have an interest in Africa, insights on the Africa they don’t usually see or hear about on mainstream media.
My overall goal is to change perception and project Africa in a positive light, changing narratives about Africa, doing it one country at a time, with the hope to inspire people to travel in/to Africa, invest in Africa and call Africa a place to be (I will discuss this Project in details in my another post).
In light of these, this blog will be a mixture of Travel (culture, lifestyle, food etc. from different countries), Exclusive behind the scene pictures from YouTube Interviews/video documentaries,
One important thing I want from you, the reader, is to read my articles with open mind. While Africans have a lot of things in common, our differences still exists so while something may be a taboo in your culture, it may be a highly respected thing in another culture so please, ask questions to learn more instead of getting angry and hurling abuses at another country’s culture.
Please feel free to always share your advice and communicate with me along the way! I hope to inspire you because truthfully, you all inspire me too and I am SO thankful for your support.
I hope you enjoyed my first post & got something out if it. Feel free to reach out to me via my email or on any of my social media handles
