Inspiring: Story of a Young Ghanaian Labourer -cum- Successful Farmer.
The journey of a thousand miles they say begins with a step. Over the years, farming has had a negative connotation amongst most youth in Africa. This young lad however sets a different conversation with farming.
Inspired by the story of Ghanaian actor and farmer John Dumelo, he got a piece of land from one Mr. Amos he worked for on his site as a labourer. He was originally in the capital city of Ghana as a contractor. After some engagements, he offered his piece of land for his farming business.
With this knowledge in farming gained from living with his grandma, today, he owns Farmeo Limited at East Legon Hills, Santeo Tanker junction, Accra- Ghana. The young farmer grows lettuce, cherry tomatoes, chilli pepper, carrots, adding snail farming for two and half years.
This opportunity however, enrolled him in school in order to gain the requisite knowledge and technical know-how in operating a farm. He now boasts as a certified Agronomist. His produce are internally distributed to the malls and grocery stores whilst some are exported to countries like India.
As more youth venture into Agriculture, the misconceptions about farming will be corrected. Thank you to John Dumelo for being a pacesetter and an inspiration to the youth as we look forward to having more investors assist in making Agriculture in Africa a lucrative one.
